The Integrated Use of the Thermal Mineral Water Accumulated in the Erma River Elidzhe Geothermal System

 

Under our contract with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works (MRDPW) for implementation of construction supervision and engineering for the Integrated Use of the Thermal Mineral Water Accumulated in the "Erma River Elidzhe Geothermal System" project, in conjunction with our duties, we performed the following:

 

  • Conformity assessment of the project and the existing construction works requirements
  • Document preparation for issuance of a Building Permit
  • Construction supervision
  • Quantity and quality control of the materials used on site
  • Quantity and quality control of the works done
  • Consultation regarding the construction contract

The Project for geothermal heating system of Zlatograd was a priority project in both the Municipal Energy Efficiency Programme 2008-2013, and the Municipal Development Plan 2005-2013.

The final project included construction of a geothermal district heating system in the town of Zlatograd for heating of the following public buildings: Levski Primary School, Antim I High School, the Kindergartens and the Nursery, the Snezhanka Kindergarten, Mir Nursery, Prof. Dr. Asen Shopov Hospital, Municipality, and Prosveta Community Centre.

The preparation of the conceptual design for the Building a Geothermal Heating System in the Town of Zlatograd project, part of the BG2006/018-387.03.03 Project – Integrated Use of the Thermal Mineral Water Accumulated in the Erma River Elidzhe Geothermal System – was funded with a grant under the Sustainable Use of Bulgarian Geothermal Sources project which is administered by the World Bank in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Energy, the Ministry of Environment and Water, and the Municipality of Zlatograd.

A project for Integrated Use of the Thermal Mineral Water Accumulated in the Erma River Elidzhe Geothermal System was developed in 2004 (through a project under the AMS/451 LOT No. 6 - BG 20002/000-624-06 Framework Agreement whose contractor was HPS KDRRESS PICKEL IFNSULT AG, Germany).

A dynamic resource of the hydrothermal system of between 30 and 55 l/s is validated by the Geothermal Energy Source Assessment.

 The currently-established water resource of the geothermal source is 10.5 l/s.

The construction is divided into 4 LOTs:

– LOT 1: Water Intake Facility

– LOT 2: Heat Pipeline From the Water Intake Facility to the Geothermal Plant in the Town of Zlatograd

– LOT 3: Geothermal Heat Exchanger Unit

– LOT 4: District Heating Network and Substations for 8 Public Buildings in Zlatograd

The works were commenced on 20.06.2009, on 19.11.2009 MRDPW ordered a suspension of the construction works due to lack of funding.
